The Last Ride

My imaginative prowess will help you to sail through this piece not your logic”

The cosmic racecourse muddled with smog and vehement neon light piercing the meadow strangled my regular thought process and siphoned me into the solitary corridor. In a state of trance, I ambulated on the pavement jutting out from the boundary wall of SSKM not perturbed by the throng of people who jolted among themselves to embark on the right bus. Skewing easily through the commotion my whole sole endeavor was to douse the flame of some of my scintillating memories which I can’t cherish anymore but only lament with feeble hope. Cars speeding down the AJC Bose Flyover, the staircase of Rabindra Sadan waved good-bye to the last couple, cops guarding the cultural hub of the city donned in their blue duty coat with baton under their arm had already started making their move.

The deserted look around craned my loneliness and craving for a character which is nothing but surely an enigma and would remain so for the rest of my life. Why me??? Why me??? Why am I not lucky like the others??? Relentless ….questions. Why am I so dump and incorrigible; there is something called destiny and I was never destined for it; ok; then why did he allow me to taste it for some time and just when I started to take a liking for the same, the surge of all the wrong things took it away from me leaving me at loss. Although I really don’t have any solid reason to feel like an outcast but at times I am left maroon.

It was closing to 9.30 in the night a hearse was pulling in with a survillent fog light atop which showed the corpse its final direction. The road ahead of the hearse was empty but still it was crawling down probably to honor his last wish to show him around the finest state –of-the-art facades. His receding hairline fostered all the wrinkles on his broad temple; he would be somewhere around sixty-five and sported a rugged look with beard like spikes on the final day. Rapped with the quintessential white sheet leaving his feet all cracked on the heels. Two wilted white circular garland resting on his flat chest, the smoke of the Bidi, which the helper sitting next to the driver was smoking was making up for the scented agarbati, which I missed out (Or it was never seen in the first place). Prodigal use of parched paddy was missing; the countenance, which my eyes captured, said that; while breathing out his last breath he was unable to keep it simple, his mind was shuttling between agony and too much of ecstasy. Apparently, it appeared to me that the corpse, which used to be a full fledged man even some time back couldn’t build any relationship on his own apart from whatever was bestowed upon him (and today most of his blood relations’ have alienated themselves; if there is any). He failed to restrict the agony of an outcast from surfacing on his face, which was showcased to the city on his final journey.

Few more hours to go, then like the soul his body will also be set free from all the parochial misery and sufferings. (And I see this to be a very evident point which bought that clandestine smirk on his face which was never that easy to decipher for me). My inquisitive eyes stalked the hearse for some time and scanned the surroundings, which showed no trace of acquaintance in account to the body. No sobbed face around to bid him good-bye for one last time or they have already done so when he was still living his mortal life. Just when the hearse was completely out of my sight, I could realize the ebb of grief plummeting my craving and loneliness.( I am utterly blessed with such lovely parents and have also earned some love and trust from people with whom I don’t share any blood relations’ just with mere ordinary acts).

While screening the posh cars in the parking lot of the Grand Calcutta Club I only wished him, a peaceful pyre coupled with a vivacious and complete life ahead. (Probably I am not lucky like the others but undoubtedly better off than him)

  1. With all the lights and noise the first thing which you missed to discover is that the place being so cheerful and bright..... Needless to say that every earthy being has some purpose or the other for which that being is in life ..... Looking beyond the facts that is not working to make your life rossy is the real purpose where someone feels to have achieved a deed in life ...... Needless to say that's a man journey end when he leaves to reach the eternity which can only be travelled alone with no one beside to be claimed as known.... Things which are dreamed can only be achieved if the dream (percieved) meant to have a purpose...... Buddy not knowing the future gives you that immense oppurtunity to create one on your own.....

  2. I must say that you are a great writer who is a very keen observer of his surroundings……

Destiny— Some people believe in Destiny and some create it. Be the creator rather than wait for it to be given to you……Yes it might take some time but if you believe in it, it will come to you….. Kehte hain ki ...... Agar kisi cheez ko dil se chaaho to puri kayanat usey tumse milane ki koshish mein lag jaati hai.

I truly agree that sometimes it is the Loneliness which kills. But it is this solitude which will help us find answers to various questions of our life. It is only when you are with yourself that you will understand your own self. Even if you are famous, have hundreds of friends, fans who would love to be by your side, owning Bungalows in posh location, riding the best cars of the world and earning in millions, be sure of one great truth- Nothing is permanent !!!. I believe that everything is given to us in a calculated manner. U must have heard the proverb- As u sow so shall you reap.

There will be time when one will achieve success and there will be time when things will not fall into place but that does not mean that you will sit and wait for things to change, rather, be ready for all situations in life. Of course aim for the best but don’t get depressed when the worst also comes coz- as I said Nothing is Permanent. Situation will change today or tomorrow. The best and the worst things are also defined by our “great mind”….This is the reason why I say that we create happiness coz it depends on the way we think and perceive things in our life.

Thus no matter what life will offer, we need to give our best shot in what ever situation we are and try to emerge a winner from that given situation…….Think Positive always as that will help us to overcome almost any obstacles in Life……And Yes if we keep our eyes open we will realize that we are indeed blessed and fortunate than many in this world…………So lets stop cribbing and start concentrating on the positive aspects and make each day a HAPPY DAY!!!

  3. another very good piece of writing i must admit. Let me start of commenting on your blog by siting few examples of great achievements. You must have heard about Dhirubhai Ambani. How he started his career.Heard about Narayan Murthy of Infosys, and Subroto Roy of Sahara Industries? They all have started their career and have made it so big that they turned "somebody" from a "nobody". But this transformation was not overnight. It took them their entire life to make it that big. Dear every cloud has a silver lining. I won't give you lectures saying that "everything good is going to happen with you". But i firmly believe that all your dreams are going to come true some day. Just have faith in yourself. And why someone else.. take example of your mascot "shah rukh khan". Do you know that one day when he went to Mumbai for the first time he stood at the bandra beach and said to himself- "one day i am going to rule this city". And see today he has made it true.

Don't be impatient, have faith in yourself. If you feel nothing good happens to you then you are wrong. Look around, you would see people with many more problems. Let me tell you a small story- "One day a little boy was crying and complaining to his mother that why he has no shoe to wear, his mother explained him that they are poor and can't afford that. The boy ran out of the house shouting loudly. After few moments he again came back to his mother, but this time he wasn't crying. His mother asked- why are you not crying? The boy replied- after i went out crying for a shoe, i saw another guy on the road without legs."
Hope you understood what i meant. Just wait for the right time. But don't stop dreaming. If you don't dream big, you will never be able to Achieve it.

And don't run after money leaving everything behind. Because it might happen that one day you have lots of money but when you will turn back, you will not find any relations beside you. So love whatever god has given you. Because everyone in this world are not even lucky like you to have blessed with such wonderful parents and friends. "Don't loose those people who are there with you when you are no one- because only their love is true love"..
